Sharapova participated a tennis clinic at the age of six, in Moscow run by Martina Navratilova. She recommended Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida for professional training at the where the player like Monica Seles, Andre Agassi trained previously. Her mother joined two years later when the visa restrictions prevented.  Sharapova's Father involved with various low paying jobs including dish-washing to continue her lesson until she was old enough and to admit to the academy. In 1995 IMG agreed to pay the annual tuition of $35,000, she signed it which allowed her to stay at the academy. At the age of 9 she was enrolled. 

Yuri and Elena, Maria Sharapova's parents are from Gomel, Belarus. Shortly before Sharapova was born their family left their homeland due to Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986. Yevgeny Russia's first number one world-ranked tennis player whose father Aleksandr Kafelnikov gave Sharapova her first tennis racquet at the age of four. veteran Russian coach Yuri Yutkin gave her first tennis lessons and impressed when he saw her playing. 

Maria Yuryevna Sharapova a Russian professional tennis player born April 19, 1987. She ranked World No. 2 as of October 29, 2012. She received United States resident in 1994.
The Women's Tennis Association ranked her World No. 1 in singles on five different occasions, for total of 21 weeks and she became the much expected World No. 1 title for the first time on August 22, 2005.

Sharapova’s professional breakthrough started in 2004 at age 17 defeating two-time defending champion Serena Williams in 2004 Wimbledon final. She won major titles at the 2006 US Open and also 2008 Australian Open. She was forced out of the game for ten months by a recurring shoulder injury which ultimately required a surgery in October 2008 and she returned to the game in May 2009. She gained the top 10 position returning in March 2011. She also won an Olympic silver medal in the London  Olympics in 2012.

She was searched mostly –as an athlete on Yahoo! in 2005 and 2008

She has been involved in a number of modeling assignments, advertisements, including Prince and Canon, Nike. She was the face of several fashion houses including Cole Haan and others. She was the Goodwill Ambassador Since February 2007 of the United Nations Development Programme. She was named as one of the 30 Legends of Women's Tennis in June 2011: Past, Present and Future" by Time.
